Using the Row Counter ♡
Loop Darling’s free row counter for knitting and crochet is a simple, browser-based way to count rows, crochet rounds and stitches, track project time, and enjoy a little encouragement from Loopi. There’s no account, download, or subscription required.
Start counting
- Open the Row Counter and optionally rename My cozy project.
- The big Current Row number begins at Row 1. This is the row you’re working on; it means 0 rows completed.
- Use the Row and Stitches + and − buttons, or tap a number to type a correction.
- Press ✓ Row complete after finishing a row or round. The working row advances by one, and the stitch count starts again at zero. Loopi may celebrate with you.
- Use Undo last row if you completed one accidentally. Tap the timer card to Start or Pause.
Keyboard shortcuts on a computer
The web counter also supports optional keyboard shortcuts. Click a blank part of the counter or Tab until the counter itself is focused, then use the keys below. These shortcuts work only while the counter is focused; they do not take over typing in text fields, website menus, or reset confirmations.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| ↑ Up | Move to the next row (+1) |
| ↓ Down | Go back one row (−1, never below Row 1) |
| → Right | Add one stitch (+1) |
| ← Left | Remove one stitch (−1, never below zero) |
| Space | Complete the current row and start the next |
| Enter | Start or pause the timer |
On a phone or tablet, you can simply tap the regular buttons. When you are editing a number or a project name, the keyboard shortcuts are inactive so you can type normally.
Timer, undo and starting fresh
Tap Start on the timer card to begin a session and tap Pause to stop it. The browser keeps elapsed time and whether your timer is running; leaving a timer running can increase the total while you’re away. Undo last row restores the row and stitch numbers from your most recent Row complete action. Other manual adjustments may clear the undo history.
Start fresh asks for confirmation before resetting the project name, rows, stitches, and timer. Once confirmed, the previous counts cannot be recovered with Undo.
How this version relates to the Loop Darling Android app
The free website counter borrows the Android app’s familiar row/stitch controls, Row complete behavior, project timer, and Loopi encouragement. The browser experience is deliberately smaller, not a full copy of the app.
- Both: Work with row and stitch counts, Row complete, timer controls, and Loopi’s little responses.
- Website only: A lightweight, single-project counter saved in this browser, plus optional computer keyboard shortcuts.
- Android app: A broader project workspace with personal PDF pattern reading, project lists, Focus Mode, and optional row reminders and stitch guidance. Availability may depend on the installed app version.
Important: The website counter and Android app do not sync. A website account does not transfer the browser’s row number, timer, or project name into the app.
Where your progress is saved
Your project name, row, stitches, and timer are stored locally in this browser on this device, without a sign-in. Switching browsers, using a private browsing session, clearing site data, or changing devices may leave you without your previous counts. The website is not a cloud backup or multi-device project library. For an important project, keep a separate note of your row number.
Frequently asked questions
Can I count crochet rounds instead of knitting rows?
Yes. Treat the working row as the round you’re on, and press Row complete after finishing each round. Always follow your designer’s actual pattern instructions.
Does completing a row advance a PDF pattern?
No. The free website counter has no pattern reader. In the Android app, row progress and navigating pattern steps are separate actions; finishing a row doesn’t automatically mark a PDF passage complete.
Why did my row or timer disappear?
Check whether you’re using the same browser and device and whether site storage or private-browsing data was cleared. If browser storage was removed, the counter can’t restore the previous project. If you notice another issue, contact support@loopdarling.com.
