Young Makers ♡ — how parent-managed shops work

Every maker deserves to be celebrated. Loop Darling welcomes original knitting, crochet, and handmade work created by young people of any age through a shop owned and operated by their parent or legal guardian. The child is the creator; the adult is the seller of record.

Status: Young Maker applications and private shop preparation are available in our beta. Paid Marketplace purchases and payouts are not open yet. Applying does not publish a shop or create a payment account.

Who can participate?

  • Under 13: A parent/legal guardian who is 18 or older must own the account and run the shop. The child does not create a Loop Darling login or communicate directly with buyers.
  • Ages 13–17: A young person may create original work for an adult-managed shop. This program does not provide an independent minor-owned seller account, payouts, or buyer messages.
  • 18 and older: Makers can use the regular adult Designer application. Transferring an established guardian-managed shop to the young maker as an adult is not automatic; contact support for review and fresh identity and payout verification.

How to start a Young Maker shop

  1. The adult creates their own Member account. Use an adult’s email and verify it. Complete the adult’s first name, last name, and craft preferences at Account setup. Ordinary members never need Designer tax or business details.
  2. Choose the Young Maker path. Visit Guardian-managed onboarding ♡. The adult confirms they are at least 18, are a parent or legal guardian, and accept responsibility for their child’s shop, privacy, customer messages, orders and refunds.
  3. Complete the adult seller’s private legal details. Enter the adult’s own legal name, applicable business name, U.S. tax classification, and mailing address. Never enter the child’s information in the adult legal-profile form. Taxpayer IDs, W-9 signatures, bank details, and formal tax verification are not collected here.
  4. Apply from Designer Studio. Select “I’m a parent or legal guardian selling creations by a Young Maker.” Add the shop name and information about the original creations, and confirm the right to sell them. Staff review the application before a private Designer workspace can become eligible for publication.
  5. Prepare creations privately. Once your application is received, the adult manages shop drafts and listing preparation. A real paid storefront can only go live after staff approval, verified Stripe Connect payout setup in the adult’s name, and required two-factor authentication. An application or saved draft never turns on sales.

What can appear publicly?

The adult can celebrate the creator with general wording such as “Made with love by a Young Maker ♡” in a shop story, subject to review. The program does not automatically publish a child’s name or provide a public child profile. Please avoid a child’s full name, date of birth, face or voice, school, location, address, phone number, email address or identifying social handles in listings, photos, QR materials, community posts and messages.

Only the adult account owner should upload listings, approve public content, answer buyer or community messages, and make shipping or refund decisions. We do not offer buyer-to-child messaging or child-owned seller logins through this program.

Payments, verification and taxes

Stripe Connect verifies the adult account holder when payments become available. The adult controls the payment setup and is responsible for understanding the tax and business consequences of selling; individual circumstances can differ, so consult a tax professional if needed. Loop Darling does not collect a child’s government ID, Social Security number or banking credentials for this program.

Being a guardian is self-attested during onboarding; that checkbox alone is not independent identity verification or a guarantee of application approval. Staff review and payment-provider verification remain separate checks. Read Stripe and 2FA publishing requirements.

Can my child have their own account?

Children under 13 should not create their own Loop Darling account. Use the parent’s or legal guardian’s account. The Young Maker shop path does not grant a young person a separate login, public child profile, or access to direct messages. We are designing age-appropriate community features separately; they are not part of the current selling workflow.

Privacy, safety and help

See our Privacy Policy for data and account information. For broader child privacy guidance, the FTC’s COPPA FAQ explains parental consent and child-data protections. For application questions, write to support@loopdarling.com from the adult’s account email; never send a child’s identity document or sensitive details in email.
